We’re Hiring!

  • Are you tired of chasing work?
  • Would you like to know what you’ll be earning month in month out so you can plan your life?
  • Do you want to focus on creativity, high-level production, and storytelling?
  • Are you craving to be part of a team that works together to push creatively and produce content that works?

If this sounds like you, then we might be of interest.

Based in the thriving coastal city of Newcastle, we are an equally thriving film communications company working with some of the nations and regions best organisations to produce film content that connects, inspires and delivers results.

Every day around here looks different and can involve chasing whales offshore, showcasing world-leading research projects, flying over national parks, helping raise awareness for charities or capturing the majesty of the biggest earthmoving equipment in the world. We also produce our fair share of talking heads so you need to be enthusiastic about working on all projects.

We are looking for a creative camera operator/ DP/ cinematographer and editor (not a videographer) who has extensive experience in working in commercial environments. You may have been operating your own corporate consultancy, or you may have been a content producer in an agency.

You are someone who understands that creativity comes in the form of working out how to increase production value within a budget, not by just throwing money at a problem.

We want someone who works with us as part of a collaborative creative team to conceive and manage ideas through to delivery so our clients can start seeing results.

On any given day you’ll be creating mood boards, testing shot styles, running reccys, leading a production unit, cutting a story, managing location sound, researching new techniques, manning a water rig or piloting one of our drone fleet. You won’t be alone; we all do this, we just need another brave soul to join us and take us to another level.

Your key responsibilities will include;

  • Running the technical point onset; you’ll be the lead camera, lighting and sound person with assistance from an experienced crew who can all hustle to help
  • Creating mood boards, shot lists and inspiration boards to help communicate the visual goal of a project
  • Ensuring we have the right equipment to perform and that the equipment we have is maintained and always ready to go
  • Editing stories, colour grading, and simple graphics
  • Working with clients, producers, directors, talent as part of a team and solo
  • Work as an integral part of the creative team to develop concepts and pitch ideas
  • Being proficient in Adobe Premiere and DaVinci Resolve
  • Being tech-savvy with considerable knowledge of AV equipment, hardware, software, and troubleshooting techniques
  • Work well under pressure to meet deadlines, including out of office hours and occasional weekends
  • Flying and maintaining our fleet of drones (training can be provided)

There are a few things we need you to understand about us;

  • We don’t do agency bullshit. We work with our clients to help them make the most out of film and screen-based media and advertising; that’s it.
  • We are unashamedly commercial. We are not doing this whilst we develop our Indy Short ideas or look for our next round of funding for a Doco about frogs. We do this because we make a difference to our client’s bottom line and in doing that we make awesome stuff.
  • We measure what we do and work to improve it. This includes our storytelling, the effectiveness of our content and our profitability because if we are not profitable, we are not here.
  • We have fun. If you don’t love it, why do it?

One of the best things about our company is living in Newcastle. Imagine working with international and national clients during the working day and getting to wash the day away at one of the many beautiful beaches on our doorstep? If you’re not amphibious then you’ve got the majesty of the Hunter Valley to call home as well. There’s a great work-life balance here and the cost of living is a fraction of Sydney or Melbourne. The bottom line is, you’ll be happy professionally and personally.

We are looking for a long term team member and as a reward, you’ll be looked after with a competitive salary, ongoing training, a voice in how things are done (if we knew everything, we wouldn’t need you) and an opportunity to shape your future.

If you think you might be the right person for us then apply here with the following attachments;

  • your CV (include clients you’ve worked with, agencies you’ve worked for, what tools of the trade you are fluent in using, including camera kits, etc)
  • a sample of your work (links to work you’ve done for agencies are OK; you’re not trying to win clients here)
  • Your response to a little assignment project set out below.
  • Client or work references

Assignment;

What are the top 5 corporate videos or films that you admire? (include links)

What is it about each of these films that you think is great and how would you go about creating something similar ie, equipment, lighting, lenses, rigs, crew, post-production techniques, etc.
